Nash County Public Schools (NCPS) takes the safety of its students, staff, and community seriously. In light of a social media threat and as a precautionary measure for safety, we are initiating a soft lockdown for all NCPS. Advanced Placement Information Night Advanced Placement (AP®) courses are college-level courses offered in high school. Students take AP Exams at the end of the course, measuring their mastery of college-level work. Nash County Public Schools will start on a two-hour delay on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, to ensure the safety of the road conditions. Due to recent weather forecasts and prioritizing the safety of our students, families, and staff, Nash County Public Schools will operate on a 2-hour delay on Wednesday, January 17. This decision follows the latest update from the National Weather Service in Raleigh. The forecast indicates the possibility of isolated, patchy ice on pavements tonight and tomorrow morning. Furthermore, they anticipate sub-freezing temperatures in the morning, potentially dropping as low as 23 degrees, with a wind chill factor of 12 to 15 degrees. Revised Schedule for January 17, 2024: - Traditional High School: 9:30 a.m. - Elementary School: 10:00 a.m. - Middle School: 10:30 a.m. - Tar River Academy and CITI High School: 11:00 a.m. - Nash-Rocky Mount Early College High School: 11:30 a.m. Breakfast will be available at schools. EARLY RELEASE - January 9, 2024 All NCPS schools will open at their regular times but will have a 3-hour early dismissal.

The most recent federal data show that in the 2020-21 school year, at least 14.7 million students nationwide were chronically absent. This means that chronic absence has almost doubled from the more than 8 million students, pre-Covid-19, who were missing so many days of school that they were academically at risk. Chronic absence — missing 10 percent or more of school days due to absence for any reason—excused, unexcused absences, and suspensions—can translate into students having difficulty learning to read by the third grade, achieving in middle school, and graduating from high school. This consent allows for yearbook inclusion and school-related social media presence. Non-opted-in students won't feature in new media by the school/district.
